Fire Hydrant System

FIRE HYDRANT AND DOWN COMERS:

a] PIPES:   All pipes above ground shall be G.I. 'C' class with ISI mark.  Pipe fittings used shall be heavy duty, G.I. as per IS:1239 mark II. flanges will be as per BS table "E" and used wherever valves are installed, and distance pieces utilised.  The entire above ground piping shall be painted  with two coats of redoxide and two coats of P.O. red enamel.  Underground piping shall be G.I. 'C' class, coated with two coats of coal tar and one coat of hessain cloth, laid at a depth of one meter below gound.  All pipe lines shall be provided with support at every 10 feet of running lenth.

b] VALVES:   All C.I.D.F. valves will be Venus,Kalpana or equiv., make.  Gun metal valves will be G.G., Sant, venu equiv. make with ISI mark.  The G.M. Valves will be provided with flanges.

c] HOSE REEL:     It shall be specially designed to accomodate 120 feet of 3/4" NB rubber hose and will strictly confirm to ISI design standards.  It shall be connected to one opening of the double hydrant valve through an adoptor and the other end shalll be provided with a gun metal shut off  nozzle as per IS: 8090 - 1976.
 
d] BREECHING CONNECTION:  This is provided for collecting water from fire brigade sources  in to underground storage tank, shall be located at a height of 3 feet on the wall near the underground tank, or on the underground tank.

This  will consist of  4 Nos., 62.5 mm gunmetal, male couplings mounted on to a 6" NB GI Manifold with socket.

e] SERVICE INLET [SIAMESE CONNECTION]:   A double inlet connection for the use of fire brigade authorities  installed at a height of 3" above the ground level near the Static Tank, directly fronting the courtyard.

This will consist of  4 nos 62.5 mm gunmetal, male couplings mounted on to a 6" nb GI manifold with sockets.  The service inlet couplings will be provided with spring loaded NRV's to prevent back flow of water.  The service inlet will be connected to the underground ring main through a 6" NB Sluice valve and a non return valve.

f] AIR RELEASE VALVE:  CI air release valve with 1" screwed inlet, gun metal orifice and rubber coated wooden ball will be installed at the top of every riser.

g] PRESSURE GUAGE:  Pressure guage with 4" dia dial soze and 0 to300 PSI range will be installed on the discharge line of every pump and at the botton of the wet risers.

h] DOWN COMER:  4" nb underground hydrant main shall be provided around the
complex, as shown in the layout. 4" nb isolation valve shall be provided at ground floor/stilt level at specified location on the hydrant main.  Single hydrant valves will be installed at locations shown on the hydrant main at height of one meter from the ground level.  Tappings for the same will be taken from the underground mains.  Single hydrant valve shall be provided at all floor landings.  One outlet from this will be connected to the hose reel using a reducing shank.


FIRE HYDRANT PUMPS:   A booster pump capable of  delivering 900 LPM water at 30 meter head shall be provided  on the terrace to deliver a pressure of 3.2 Kgs. per sq. cm. at the top most  hydrant.  The pump set shall be Kirloskar make with bronze impeller and bronze wear parts.

Operation of the booster pumps shall be automatic against constant build up of water pressure at the top landing in the wet risers and any fall in pressure due to the operation of any hydrant valve shall actuate the booster pump.  In addition it shall also provide an audio visual alarm in the main control panel.

One diesel Engine driven pump of capacity same as that of the Electrical pump shall be provided.  Pump shall be Kirloskat make & engine shall vbe KOEL/cummins make.  This pump will be stand by in case of power failure and will also operate Automatically  against pressure drop as the electrical pump.

All the fire fighting pumps shall have a common motor control panel.  All the pumps shall also have the facility of manual starting/shut down from the pump house in addition to various standard features.
